Island King

Island King is a free-to-play mobile game from Forever9 Games, a studio based in Shenzhen whose publishing entity is HK FOREVER9 TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED in Hong Kong. It launched on 22 April 2019 and has passed 10 million downloads on Google Play.

If you have played Coin Master, you already know the shape of it. You spin a slot-style wheel, and each spin lands on coins, an attack, a raid, a steal or a shield. Coins build and upgrade your island; once every building is complete, you move on to the next one. Attacks and raids are aimed at other real players, and shields are what stop them hitting you back.

On top of that sits a collectible card system, organised into albums tied to your island progress. Cards are traded with Facebook friends and tribe members, and completing a set pays bonus spins and coins. Tribes, friend raids and rotating tournaments are what keep the game social rather than solitary.

The comparison players themselves make is the useful one: reviews frequently describe it as a good alternative to Coin Master, with several saying the odds feel fairer and the rewards more generous. We cover both, so you can judge that for yourself.

The loop is three steps: spin the wheel, spend what you win, then deal with what other players do to you.

The wheel

Each spin resolves to one of a handful of outcomes. Coins go straight to your balance for building. An attack sends you at another player's island. A raid lets you dig for their buried coins. A steal takes from a chest. A shield protects you from one incoming attack, and holding shields is the only real defence in the game.

Spins are the limiting resource, and they regenerate at roughly 6 per hour up to a cap. Forever9 does not publish where that cap sits, and it varies with your level. The practical consequence is worth knowing: once you are at the cap, regeneration stops and you are wasting spins by not playing. Coming back before you fill up is how you get the most out of the game without spending.

Building and stars

Coins buy buildings and upgrades on your current island. Completing every object on an island unlocks the next one. Progress is measured in stars rather than a conventional level, earned from purchasing buildings, finishing islands and placing in tournaments.

Two gates worth knowing: the bird slingshot unlocks at level 10, and tournaments need seven islands opened before you can enter.

Cards and albums

Cards drop from chests and play, and slot into albums tied to island progress. Completing an album pays bonus spins and coins. Because duplicates are common and specific cards are scarce, trading is a genuine part of the game rather than a side feature, and it is the main reason to be in an active tribe.

Pets

Pets have abilities on mana cooldowns, so they cannot be used continuously. Forever9 does not document the individual pet effects in any detail publicly.

Spins are the currency that matters, and there are more ways to get them than most players use.

• Hourly regeneration: About 6 spins an hour, free and automatic. The single biggest source over a week, and the one wasted by letting your balance sit at the cap.
• Official link posts: Forever9 posts spin links on the game's Facebook page and Instagram. These are what this site tracks.
• Video ads: Watch a short ad for extra spins. Optional rather than forced.
• Friend gifts: Request and send spins with Facebook friends daily. Costs you nothing to send.
• Facebook connection: Linking your account is reported to pay a one-off bonus of around 30 spins and a million coins, though Forever9 does not document the exact figure.
• Card set completion: Finishing an album pays bonus spins and coins.
• Tribe contributions: Collective goals that pay the whole tribe when met.
• Events and tournaments: Rotating events such as Attack Master, Building Master and the Slingshot tournaments, plus seasonal runs like Sweet Loop.
• Gift codes: Redeemed in-game under Settings, then Gift Code. Covered in detail below.

One correction to something you will see repeated elsewhere: descriptions of a seven-day login calendar that resets if you miss a day appear to come from other games rather than this one. Island King has daily gift links and in-game bonuses, but that specific streak structure is not documented for it.

Island King does have a genuine code system, which is worth knowing because many games in this category do not.

Codes are redeemed in-game through Settings, then Gift Code. Forever9 distributes them through official Facebook posts, push notifications and occasionally email, and they typically pay free spins, coins or cards.

The catch is that they expire quickly, often within days and rarely beyond a couple of weeks. Third-party sites list long runs of codes from 2024 and 2025 that are almost certainly dead, and trying them costs nothing but achieves nothing.

We do not publish codes we cannot verify as active. When Forever9 issues one through an official channel it will appear here, and the sensible thing is to redeem it the day you see it.

Island King sells Diamonds, its premium currency, plus bundled packages. Documented price points run from $0.99 to $19.99: 120 Diamonds at $1.99, 330 at $4.99, 750 at $9.99, alongside spin and torpedo packages from $0.99 to $4.99, festival packages, and a King Pass at $5.99.

Diamonds buy special chests, bundles and the King Pass rather than being spent directly on spins. Forever9 publishes no exchange rate between Diamonds and spins or coins, so what a Diamond is actually worth to you is not something you can work out before buying.

The game also carries advertising. Interestingly, this is one of the few in its category where players single out the ad load as light, with reviews noting it does not bombard you the way competitors do. The ads that matter are the optional ones you watch for extra spins.

The App Store rates it 9+ with content descriptors including Loot Boxes, which is a fair description of the chests. Forever9 publishes no drop rates for chests or card odds.

This needs its own section, because Island King works differently depending on where you are, and most write-ups miss it.

In some markets, notably Indonesia, Island King includes a fourth currency called redcoins and a cash-out feature that converts them into e-wallet balances through services like DANA and GoPay. Players earn redcoins from spins, events and missions, then withdraw through a Cash menu in the game.

In most markets, including the US and UK, that feature does not exist. Coins, spins and diamonds have no cash value and there is nothing to withdraw. If you are reading this outside a cash-out market, treat Island King as an ordinary free-to-play game, because that is what it is for you.

Where the feature does exist, be careful with the numbers. Forever9 publishes no official exchange rate between redcoins and real currency. The withdrawal thresholds quoted online, such as 5,000 points for Rp10,000, are community-reported and unverified. And the most common complaint from those markets is that withdrawal in practice requires referring a large number of friends, with some players saying it is effectively unreachable without doing so.

There is also an unresolved legal question. The dossier research notes that a redcoin-to-e-wallet feature may fall under local gambling or sweepstakes rules in Indonesia, and that no regulatory action has been publicly recorded either way. We report that as an open question rather than a verdict.

Island King rates 4.7 on Google Play across roughly 393,000 reviews and 4.8 on the App Store. The audience is genuinely global, with a particularly strong presence in Southeast Asia and Latin America.

The praise is consistent: the gameplay is fun and moreish, the art is colourful and clearly laid out, the social side of raiding friends and trading cards works, and the advertising is lighter than in competing games. A recurring line is that it feels like a fairer Coin Master.

The complaints are equally consistent. Players allege the spin odds are manipulated, describing long runs with almost no attacks or steals; that is unverified and Forever9 publishes no odds either way. Technical faults come up often, including server errors, unresponsive buttons and overlapping pop-ups. And purchase prompts are described as pushy by a portion of players, though not as universally as in most social casino apps.

One signal worth reporting honestly: while the all-time average sits above 4.5, recent-review averages tracked on the Pro variant have been considerably lower, which suggests satisfaction among newer players is weaker than the headline score implies.

Island King runs on iOS 12.0 or later, including Apple Vision, on Android 5.0 or higher, and on Windows through Google Play Games. The iOS download is around 275 MB.

There is a second listing called Island King Pro on Google Play. Available descriptions suggest it is a near-identical build with minor differences, likely around ad load or regional targeting, rather than a sequel or a different game. If you are choosing between them, there is no documented feature advantage either way.

Progress is tied to a Facebook or guest account. Guest accounts carry the usual risk: lose the device and you lose the progress. Linking Facebook is worth doing early, and it pays a bonus as well.

Support runs through IslandKing@forevernine.com and the in-game feedback system. Forever9 has an unusual history here: it built a Facebook Messenger chatbot called Luna to handle FAQs at scale after starting out with a single full-time support employee and volunteers.

The game is under continuous live operation rather than discrete major releases. Version numbers have climbed steadily from 2.57 in late 2023 to 2.75 by mid-2026, with the cadence pointing to regular event rotations and balance changes rather than overhauls.

There has been no relaunch, rebrand or genre change since 2019. Forever9 also publishes Piggy GO, which we cover separately, along with other casual titles, and there is no sign of Island King being wound down.

Island King competes directly with the spin-and-build games, several of which we cover.

• Coin Master: The game that defined this genre and the one Island King is most often compared against. Larger, busier, and with a much heavier reward-link culture.
• Piggy GO: Forever9's own sibling title, so the closest relative in design terms. Same studio, same instincts, a different theme.

• Match Masters: A different mechanic, but the same head-to-head-against-real-players shape if that is the part you enjoy.

The honest comparison is with Coin Master, and the split is about culture rather than mechanics. Coin Master has far more links circulating and a bigger player base to raid; Island King has lighter advertising and a player community that generally finds it fairer. Both run on the same underlying loop.
