Free Rare Gems come from four sources: the Daily Spin (resets every 24 hours, has Rare Gems in the prize pool), the Daily Challenge at Gold rank (one guaranteed Rare Gem per day), Blitz Quest chests (over a 3-4 day track), and official Facebook gift links posted by PopCap 1 to 3 times per day. The free gift links from Facebook are almost always limited Rare Gems, not the standard shop ones.
